Florence is a great example of the Australian attitude that drives McDabb. After leading an international life as a singer, actor and clothes designer she has left a legacy of wallpapers and fabric prints that stand on their own as a body of work. Many people criticise her flamboyant disregard for the truth (she pretended to be English, a rich squatter’s daughter and a chinese born call girl at various times in her life) and her appropriation of other artist’s work. There is no doubt, though, that she created and maintained a brand that has left an indelible legacy.
